Bangladesh Supreme Court keeps ex-PM Khaleda’s bail order on hold

DHAKA, March 20 (NsNewsWire) — Bangladesh’s apex court Monday stayed until May 8 the High Court order that granted four-month bail to Bangladeshi ex-Prime Minister Khaleda Zia in a graft case, reports Xinhua.
The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Monday passed the order after granting two separate leave-to-appeal petitions filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission and the government challenging the bail order.
The 72-year-old leader was found guilty of the corruption charge and sentenced to five years in prison on Feb. 8.
Shortly after the verdict, Zia was taken to a jail in Dhaka. The court also awarded 10 years of sentence to five others including Zia’s son Tarique Rahman a fine of 21 million takas (250,000 U.S. dollars) each.  Enditem
