Commercial Agreement signed between BCSCL and AKASH DTH

DHAKA, July 30 (NsNewsWire) — Bangladesh Communication Satellite Company Limited (BCSCL) and Beximco
Communications Limited (BCL) has signed two separate commercial agreement on Satellite
Transponder Service and Up-linking Service respectively.
Under the agreements, Beximco Communications will provide country’s first ever DTH service
with brand name AKASH through the very first satellite of the nation- Bangabandhu Satellite 1.
The agreements were signed at an event held in BCSCL head office in the capital Dhaka
yesterday on July 29, 2019.
Shahriar Ahmed Chowdhury, Managing Director of BCSCL and D.S. Faisal Hyder, Chief
Executive Officer (CEO) of Beximco Communications signed the agreement on behalf of
respective parties.
BCSCL’s Chairman Dr. Shahjahan Mahmood, General Manager (Operations) Md. Taskinur
Rahman and Assistant General Manager (Sales & Engineering) Bakhtiar Ahmed and Beximco
Communications’ Chief Financial Officer Luthfor Rahman, Head of Technology Anowarul
Azim and General Manager (Business Planning & Supply Chain) Mr. Zia Hasan Khan were
present on the occasion.
Speaking at the Event, BCSCL Chairman Dr. Shahjahan Mahmood said, “Government wants the
best use of technological advancement in the way of the country’s progress and peoples’ welfare.
DTH service from the Bangabandhu Satellite-1 is the best example of that effort. We hope that
Beximco Communications’ AKASH DTH can ensure continuous and quality service in
customers level.”
BEXIMCO Communications CEO DS Faisal Hyder said, “Bangabandhu Satellite-1 is a big
symbol of our national pride and achievement. We are committed to ensure quality DTH service
from the satellite. We are also continuously trying to develop the service in different ways.”
Beximco Communications Limited brought to the nation the first ever world standard Direct to
Home (DTH) service in Bangladesh under the brand name of AKASH in last May.
Although Bangladesh has a high TV penetration, the nation did not have the freedom to enjoy
the perks of DTH technology so far. AKASH, the first & only legal DTH operator in the country,
for the time being, aims at changing the game and taking the Pay TV industry of Bangladesh to a
new era of excellence.
AKASH is now commercially available at authorized retails in 20 Districts – Dhaka,
