Death of Indian superstar Sridevi Kapoor prompts nationwide grief

NEW DELHI, Feb. 26 (NsNewsWire) — The death of Bollywood superstar Sridevi Kapoor at 54 has left Indians in shock, prompting an outpouring of grief across the nation, reports Xinhua.
“Saddened by the untimely demise of noted actor Sridevi. She was a veteran of the film industry, whose long career included diverse roles and memorable performances,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a tweet.
“My thoughts are with her family and admirers in this hour of grief. May her soul rest in peace,” he added.
The beloved Indian actress passed away after a cardiac arrest while attending her nephew’s wedding in Dubai late Saturday night, her family has confirmed.
Born in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, Sridevi made her acting debut aged four, and went on to become one of the biggest names in the Hindi film industry, with a career spanning over four decades. She starred in a string of blockbusters such as “Nagina” (1986), “Mr India” (1987) and “Chandni” (1989).
She was last seen in 2017 film MOM.
Sridevi was awarded the Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian award, for her services in the film industry.  Enditem
