England couple get engaged on Basketball court

GOLD COAST, April 8 (NsNewsWire) — England’s men’s and women’s basketball teams both celebrated on-court wins at Townsville Entertainment and Convention Centre on Sunday, but two players had even more reason to break out the champagne.

After England’s men defeated Cameroon 81-54 and with the women’s team cheering them on from behind the bench, Jamell Anderson and girlfriend Georgia Jones got engaged.

When the game finished, Anderson invited Jones on to the court, having alerted his teammates to what he had in mind.

“I only told them just now,” Anderson said. “They initiated the plan really well, so that went perfectly.”

An oblivious Jones joined the team, thinking she was in the photo to help the England men celebrate their progression to the qualifying final.

“I had absolutely no idea,” Jones said. “He told me I was just getting a picture taken.”

Jamell Anderson and girlfriend Georgia Jones got engaged.

Instead, Anderson got down on one knee, with his teammates in a semicircle behind him, produced a ring and asked Jones to marry him. She said yes.

“It’s been on my mind for a while,” Anderson said. “So now I can just play basketball.”

A tearful Jones was lost for words.

“I’m just in shock,” she said, and Anderson echoed those sentiments.

“I’m pretty speechless myself and I knew it was happening,” he said.
