Homegoers stand huddled in queues as Bangladesh Eid advance ticket sale begins

DHAKA, Sept. 15  (NsNewsWire) — With over a week remaining for the holy Eid-ul-Azha, Bangladesh Railway has began sale of advance train tickets to ensure a hassle-free journey for millions who will flock to village homes to celebrate one of the biggest religious festivals with their dear ones, reports Xinhua.
Homegoers were seen to stand in long queues to buy advance tickets in Dhaka‘s main Kamalapur Railway Station on Tuesday morning.
Bangladesh Railways Minister Mujibul Haque Tuesday morning visited the railway station where many even queued up for tickets since Monday night.
Haque told reporters that the sale will continue till Sept. 19 in Dhaka and Chittagong railway stations when one passenger would be able to buy maximum four tickets.
He said Bangladesh Railway will operate seven pairs of special trains on Sept. 22 to Oct. 3 to cope with the passengers before and after Eid-ul-Azha which will be celebrated in the country on Sept. 25.
Officials say other state-owned transport bodies will soon start special Eid services to ply on different inter-district routes in addition to the regular services to meet the demand of the home-bound city dwellers.
They said state-run Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation will begin selling advance bus tickets on Sept. 16.
Like previous years, millions of Dhaka dwellers are expected to leave the capital city for Eid-ul-Azha, also known as the festival of animal sacrifice, celebrated by Muslims worldwide.
Every Muslim who has the financial means need to sacrifice animal and distribute the meat to family and the poor.
Millions of poor people in Bangladesh, who cannot afford to buy meat even once in a year, get the chance of eating meat this time every year.  Enditem
