IGCC organising an Evening of Rabindra Sangeet, Recitation

DHAKA, May 9 (NsNewsWire) — IGCC is organising an Evening of Rabindra Sangeet by Ms. Chhaya Karmakar and Recitation by Mr. Shihab Shahriyar on 12 May 2012 at 5 PM at Kobi Sufia Kamal Auditorium, Bangladesh National Museum, Dhaka

Dr. Shihab Shahriar is a Poet, Story writer and Elocutionist of Bangladesh. He is working as the Keeper of Public Education Department of Bangladesh National museum. He studied at University of Dhaka with Bengali as his subject and completed his Ph.D. in 2010. He started writing in the 80’s as a free lance writer and in 1997 his first book, a research work titled ‘Bangladesher Putul Nach’ was published.

His other activities are : From 1985 he is working with BTV and currently BTV’s program ‘kotha o kobita’ is planned, organized and anchored by him;  He has also anchored and directed in several private channels; He prepared a documentary on Rabindranath Tagore titled ‘Bangladeshe Rabindranath’; He is the editor of ‘Boitha’ a paper on folk related news; He was the central member of Chanderhat (a children based organization), kojona (recitation organization) and Eshan theatre. He has visited many countries – USA, UK, Japan, India, Bahrain, Qatar, Hong Kong and Srilanka. He is writing on these visits and one of them ‘Megher aloy’ has already been published.

Chhaya Karmakar is a Rabindra Sangeet singer. At present she is a lecturer at Shurer Dhara College of Music, music teacher at Mangrove School and director and trainer of Hrishav Sangeet Angan.

In her early days, her music teacher was Sri Tapan Kumar Dey for many years and her second guru was Sri Nikhil Krishno Nag. Thereafter, she got ICCR scholarship and completed her BA (honours) and MA in Rabindra Sangeet in Rabindra Bharati University in Kolkata. She had been an apprentice of Shrimati Maya Sen and Shrimati Shagata Lakshmi Dasgupta who taught her Rabindra Sangeet. She learnt classical music from Shrimati Rajashree Ghosh.

Chhaya has received national award in 1992 at the National Educational Week arranged by the Education Ministry. In a competition arranged by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in 1994, she secured 1st position. She was enlisted as a Rabindra Sangeet singer by BTV in 2001 and has been regularly performing in BTV and almost all channels of Bangladesh.  She has performed in “Aaj Shokaler Amontrone” at Tara Bangla channel in Kolkata. She has performed in many other places in West Bengal and Orissa including Shantiniketan, Belur Math and Jorashako. She has performed in a programme arranged by ICCR in Rabindra Shadan.

She is a member of many cultural organisations including Rabindra Sangeet Sammelan Parishad, Rabindra Sangeet Shilpi Shongstha and Sangeet Sangathan Shomonnoy Porishod. She has released many albums, all released from Laser Vision .
