Indian president launches Bangla radio service

Kolkata, Aug. 23 (NsNewsWire) — Indian President Pranab Mukherjee has launched the Akahvani Maitree, a Bangla radio service,  in Kolkata.

Speaking on the occasion, President said that Akashvani Maitree will be an important channel of communication between India and Bangladesh.

The proposal to establish a radio channel with content sharing from both the countries was discussed during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Bangladesh in June, 2015.

The new radio channel will cater to Bengali speaking people of India and Bangladesh. A state-of-the-art transmitter has been installed in Chinsurah in Bengal to enable the service to be broadcasted throughout  Bangladesh. The service will be broadcast in India and Bangladesh on 594 KHz.

Bangladesh President,  Prime Minister and Speaker of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh in their separate written messages welcomed the launching of new radio channel Akashvani Maitree and said that the channel would act as a bridge of amity between the two countries.
