China emerges as global nanotechnology patents leader

Over the past 25 years, China has emerged as the global leader in nanotechnology patents. According to a recently published white paper, “China Nanotechnology Industry 2025,” the country holds 43% of all authorized nanotechnology patents worldwide. Between 2000 and 2025, over 1.07 million nanotechnology patents were granted globally, with China accounting for 464,000 of them—a number that surpasses the combined total of the United States, Japan, and the Republic of Korea.

China’s patents are primarily concentrated in key areas, including semiconductor devices, catalytic chemistry, biomedicine, and new materials. As of May 2025, the number of nanotechnology enterprises in China has exceeded 34,500. The white paper projects that the global nanotechnology market could reach $1.5 trillion by the end of 2025.

বিগত ২৫ বছরে ন্যানোটেকনোলজির পেটেন্টে বিশ্বে শীর্ষস্থান দখল করেছে চীন। সম্প্রতি প্রকাশিত ‘চায়না ন্যানোটেকনোলজি ইন্ডাস্ট্রি ২০২৫’ শীর্ষক শ্বেতপত্র অনুসারে, বিশ্বজুড়ে অনুমোদিত ন্যানোটেকনোলজি পেটেন্টের ৪৩ শতাংশই চীনের দখলে। ২০০০ থেকে ২০২৫ সাল পর্যন্ত বিশ্বব্যাপী ১০ লাখ ৭০ হাজারেরও বেশি ন্যানোটেকনোলজি পেটেন্ট অনুমোদিত হয়েছে, যার মধ্যে ৪ লাখ ৬৪ হাজার পেটেন্টই চীনের। এই সংখ্যা যুক্তরাষ্ট্র, জাপান ও দক্ষিণ কোরিয়ার সম্মিলিত সংখ্যার চেয়েও বেশি।

চীনের পেটেন্টগুলো মূলত সেমিকন্ডাক্টর ডিভাইস, ক্যাটালাইটিক কেমিস্ট্রি, বায়োমেডিসিন এবং নতুন উপকরণের মতো গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ক্ষেত্রগুলোতে। ২০২৫ সালের মে মাস পর্যন্ত, চীনে ন্যানোটেকনোলজি সংশ্লিষ্ট প্রতিষ্ঠানের সংখ্যা ৩৪,৫০০ ছাড়িয়ে গেছে। শ্বেতপত্র অনুসারে, ২০২৫ সালের শেষে বিশ্বব্যাপী ন্যানোটেকনোলজি বাজার ১.৫ ট্রিলিয়ন ডলারে পৌঁছাতে পারে।
