140 Fijian athletes head for Commonwealth games in Australia

SUVA, March 20 (Xinhua) — Fiji will send a total of 140 athletes to participate in the 21st Commonwealth Games that will be held from April 4 to April 15 at the Gold Coast in Australia.
Fijian President Jioji Konrote said on Tuesday that Fiji was sending a big contingent and this was a reflection of her growth as a nation.
“We are already on our way to maturity as an independent and sovereign State. We have made an impressive turnaround with our economy with eight successive years of positive growth and an unprecedented ninth to be confirmed soon.”
He said Fiji despite her small size had taken on leadership positions in the international community including being president of the United Nations Climate Change negotiations or COP23, and this was something to be proud about. Enditem
