Bangladesh’s July-October exports surge 17 pct to 10 bln USD

DHAKA, Nov. 24 (nsnewswire) — Bangladesh’s July-October export income surged about 17 percent year on year to about 10 billion U.S. dollars.
“Export income in the first four months of the current 2013-14 fiscal year (July 2013-June 2014) reached 9,747.17 million U.S. dollars,” said an Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) official who preferred to be unnamed.
He said the pace of growth of Bangladesh’s merchandise exports bolstered in last couple of months, suggesting that demand for its ready-made garments in key global markets are increasing.
Of total earnings, the EPB official Bangladesh’s income from ready-made garment items including knitwear and woven stood at about 7.89 billion U.S. dollars during July-October period of the current fiscal year.
In July-October period of the current 2013-14 fiscal year, knitwear garment export grew 17.85 percent to 4,022.21 million U.S. dollars while woven garments increased 20.07 percent to 3,864.18 million U.S. dollars, comparing with the same period of last fiscal (July 2012-June 2013).
According to the official, the country’s export earnings in the last month grew 2.03 percent year on year to 2.12 billion U.S. dollars.
Bangladesh set its export target in 2013-14 fiscal year at 30. 50 billion U.S. dollars including 24.147 billion U.S. dollars from readymade garment products.
Bangladesh’s export income in the past 2012-13 fiscal year grew 11.18 percent year on year to reach 27.018 billion U. S. dollars, falling short of the projected target by 3. 51 percent. Enditem
