Ambassador meets the Secretary General of UAE Chambers

“His Excellency Mr. Md. Abu Zafar, Ambassador of Bangladesh to the United Arab Emirates and Permanent Representative to IRENA held a meeting yesterday with His Excellency Humaid Mohammed bin Salem, Secretary General of the UAE Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) at the latter’s office in Dubai. They discussed various issues of mutual interest with particular focus on expansion of bilateral trade and UAE investment in Bangladesh. They both agreed to activate the Joint Business Council comprising of representatives from UAE FCCI and Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) under the auspice of the MOU signed between the two apex chambers in 2011 by way of holding a business round table in the first half of March 2022 in Dubai.

During the meeting, the Ambassador highlighted Bangladesh’s success in the area of agriculture, readymade garments, pharmaceuticals, leather industries, SME sectors and other areas and requested the UAE side for importing more Bangladeshi products as well as for investing in Bangladesh in different potential sectors.  

While appreciating the economic development of Bangladesh in recent decades, FCCI Secretary General remarked that there exists excellent relations between Bangladesh and UAE at political level as well as people to people contact. He stressed on meaningful engagement of business people from both ends in potential sectors for doing real business. As Dubai has established itself as a trading hub and gateway for the MENA region and beyond, Bangladeshi products can easily reach these markets through Dubai, he added.

In this context the Ambassador emphasized on establishing direct shipping connectivity between Bangladesh and UAE ports that would reduce  time and cost for transporting commodities and help significantly in growing the economic activities. The Ambassador also expressed Bangladesh’s readiness for being a partner of the UAE Food Security programme by way of establishing a sustained supply chain of agro products from Bangladesh.

The Ambassador invited the UAE FCCI Secretary General to visit Bangladesh with a business delegation. The Secretary General accepted the invitation and expressed his eagerness to visit Bangladesh at a convenient time in near future.”
