Arrest warrant issued against 30 Bangladeshi opposition leaders, activists

DHAKA,  Nov. 29 (Xinhua) — A court in Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka has issued the arrest warrant for 30 leaders and activists of ex-Prime Minsiter Khaleda Zia’s Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)-led 20-party alliance in a case filed for torching a vehicle during an anti-government demonstration.
Judge Kamrul Hossain Mollah of Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court issued the arrest warrant on Tuesday against BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and 29 others after accepting the charges leveled against 43 opposition leaders and activists in the case.
The court also directed the law enforcers to submit a report on the execution of arrest warrant on Jan. 25.
According to the case statement, the accused instigated their fellows for torching a vehicle in January, 2014 in Dhaka during the demonstration against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government.
Among the accused, BNP leaders Alamgir, Mirza Abbas, Rafiqul Amin and 10 other activists have been currently on bail in the case.
A BNP spokesman who did not like to be named has termed the case against the BNP leaders and activists false and politically motivate.  Enditem
