Bangladesh elected vice-chair of Intergovernmental Council of IPDC

DHAKA, Nov. 21 (NsNewsWire) — Bangladesh has been elected Vice-Chair of the Intergovernmental Council of the International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC).
The election took place in the opening session of the 29th IPDC Intergovernmental Council (IGC) in UNESCO headquarters in Paris on Thursday.
Bangladesh previously was a member of the Council during 2001-2005.
The Council consists of 39 Member States. Their 4-year term of office extends from the end of the ordinary session of the General Conference during which they are elected until the end of its second subsequent ordinary session.
IPDC, created in 1980 under UNESCO is mandated for capacity building of the countries where transition of electronic and print media is on a go.

It is also the sole intergovernmental programme of United Nations to mobilize international support in order to contribute to sustainable development, democracy and good governance by strengthening the capacities of developing countries and countries in transition in the field of electronic and print media.

Since its creation, IPDC has channelled about US$ 105 million to over 1700 media development projects in 140 countries.
