Bangladesh fetches nearly 12 bln USD from July-November merchandise export

DHAKA, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) — Bangladesh’s merchandise export earnings in the first five months of the current 2013-14 fiscal year (July 2013-June 2014) surged over 18 percent to about 12 billion U.S. dollars, an official said Monday.
The Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) official who preferred to be unnamed said earnings were also 2.86 percent higher than the 11,626.60 million U.S. dollars target set for the months.
“With 2.21 billion U.S. dollars export earning in November, up an impressive 25 percent over the same period a year ago, the country’s overall export earnings in the first five months stood at 11,959.61 million U.S. dollars.”
Of the total earnings, the official who did not like to be named said Bangladesh’s income from ready-made garments stood at about 9,653.35 million U.S. dollars.
He said export of knitwear garments grew 20.48 percent to 4,899.82 million U.S. dollars while woven garments increased 21 percent to 4,753.53 million U.S. dollars, compared with the same period of last 2012-13 fiscal year (July 2012-June 2013).
