Bangladesh marks 44th Victory Day with festivities

DHAKA, Dec. 16 (NsNewsWire) — Bangladesh has celebrated its 44th Victory Day, commemorating the valiant sons of the soil who sacrificed their lives for independence from the Pakistani occupation forces in 1971.

A 31-gun salute heralded the occasion, with major streets, buildings and structures in the capital illuminated with national flags and colourful lights.

Like the past occasions thousands thronged the Jatiyo Smriti Soudho, the national memorial,  at Savar on the outskirts of capital Dhaka after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina early in the morning paid homage to three million martyrs by offering wreath on the altar, as army bugles played the last post.
