DHAKA, Oct. 31 (NsNewsWire) — Riding on a stunning show of spin bowling from teenage sensation Mehedi Hasan Miraz followed by premier all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, Bangladesh secured their first ever Test win over elite England with an 108-run victory on the third day at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka Sunday, reports Xinhua.
The historic win also helped the hosts to draw the two-match Rocket Cup Test series 1-1.
Miraz, 19, took six wickets while Shakib grabbed four wickets in a single session to steer their side to the proudest cricketing achievement which seemingly elated entire Bangladesh.
Miraz, who grabbed seven wickets on his debut in the first Test in Chittagong, finished 6-77 in the second innings to return 12 wickets from the second Test match by virtue of his 6-82 in England’s first innings. His wicket tally stood a tall 19 wickets from his first two Tests.
The teenage off-spin sensation Miraz was adjudged man of the match in the series-decider 2nd test claiming 12 wickets.
Bangladesh were all out for 296 runs in their second innings of the 2nd Test on Sunday, setting England a winning target of 273 runs.
England were 100 runs for no loss after 23 overs requiring another 173 runs to win the second Test against Bangladesh when the players left the field for tea on day-3.
But after the tea break the visitors lost all ten wickets for just 64 runs. Finally, they were all out for 164 runs in 22.3 mesmeric overs in their second inning.
Chasing Bangladesh’s 220 runs in its first innings, England managed to score 240 runs on their first innings of the second Test, leading by 20 runs.
Imrul Kayes, who hit 78 runs off 120 balls, and Mahmudullah, who made 47 runs off 57 balls, contributed largely to the efforts of the hosts to score 296 runs in the second innings. Therefore, England were set a daunting 273-run chase.
For emerging cricketing power Bangladesh, this is a big victory against any major Test playing nation after beating earlier only West Indies and Zimbabwe.
And the win was only their 8th in 95 Tests matches since June 26, 2000 when it attained the status of a Test playing country.
England cricket team arrived in Dhaka on Sept. 30 to play two Tests and three One Day Internationals (ODI) during the month-long tour.
The visitors had earlier won the thrilling first match of the two-match Rocket Cup Test series by 22 runs.
The visitors had sealed a 2-1 series win after defeating the hosts by four wickets in the third and final ODI at Chittagong on Oct. 12. Enditem
