Bangladesh’s opposition alliance enforces nationwide blockade

DHAKA, Jan. 6 (NsNewsWire) — Ex-Prime Minister Khaleda Zia’s 20-party opposition alliance has enforced blockade across Bangladesh.

Khaleda Zia, who remained confined in her office since Saturday night, made the blockade announcement on Monday evening after she was barred to join her party’s anti-government rally.

Long-distance buses operating between Dhaka and outlying Bangladesh places almost stayed off the roads since Tuesday morning as most transporters preferred to stay home amid fear of violence.

Incidents of clash, arson, vandalism, chase and counter-chase, bomb explosions and detention have been reported across the country.
