Beximco Pharma celebrates World Osteoporosis Day
Dhaka, Oct. 21 (Beximco Press Release) — Celebrated globally on October 20, World Osteoporosis Day is an annual event to raise awareness about the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of osteoporosis or bone loss. Osteoporosis is the thinning of bones and reduction of bone mass which is very common after age 50 particularly in post-menopausal women. If preventive measures are not taken early, it can lead to fractures and physical abnormality.
Beximco Pharma celebrated the day with a number of programs under this year’s global theme “Strong women make stronger women.” All these events were organized to make people aware about the importance of bone health before bone fractures happen at old age, particularly with a focus on mother’s role in promoting bone health as they play a critical role in family.
Day long activities carried out by the company included arranging free health camp at jogger’s park in the city, distributing awareness leaflets among people and organizing discussions with doctors in various medical institutes. The company officials visited CRP Savar and donated medicines for the patients on this occasion. A colorful horse rally in the city was also arranged to promote awareness about bone health.
The company also organized a nationwide signature campaign at different medical colleges and hospitals to highlight the role of parents and senior members in family to take actions before osteoporosis affects them.
Beximco Pharma, for the first time in the country, organized a special bone health check up to measure Bone Mineral Density (BMD) in order to instantly detect osteoporosis in people. On this occasion, the company provided the machine to scan about 100 patients at National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation (NITOR) in presence of senior orthopedicians and trauma specialists.
