Body of missing Japanese woman found dead in Bangladesh capital

DHAKA, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) — A woman believed to be a Japanese national has been found dead in an apartment in Bangladesh capital Dhaka days after she was reported missing, police said.

According to the official, a team of the Detective Branch of Bangladesh Police early Tuesday found the body of the Japanese woman who has been living and working in Bangladesh capital for about 10 years.

Name of the woman was not known immediately, said the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) official who preferred to be unnamed, adding the woman has been missing for a few days.

DMP is expected to hold a press briefing later in the day to provide more details on the issue.

Last month gunmen shot dead a Japanese man in Bangladesh’s northwestern Rangpure district, police said, in the second attack claimed by Islamic State (IS) group jihadists. But the Bangladeshi government has denied the claim.
