Commonwealth Secretary General calls on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina

 DHAKA, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) — The Secretary General of Commonwealth Kamalesh Sharma has paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina this afternoon at Ganobhabon. 

During the call on Kamalesh Sharma appreciated Bangladesh’s abiding commitment, fundamental values and principles of Commonwealth. He briefed the Prime Minister on the forthcoming Commonwealth Heads of Governments meeting (CHOGM) to be held in Malta later this year. He expressed hope that a high level Bangladesh delegation under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would attend the upcoming CHOGM and its parallel forums.   He briefed the Prime Minister on the preparation and priorities of the imminent CHOGM and sought her views and guidance in making the Commonwealth summit a success and bring  the Organisation into greater relevance.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that Bangladesh would like to see the outcome of CHOGM 2015 to voice for and enhance the interests of LDCs and Small Island and developing states (SIDS) in international fora in priority areas such as trade, market access, investment, poverty eradication, sustainable development, women’s empowerment, climate change, blue economy and others.

The Commonwealth Secretary General led a three-member delegation on a three-day official visit to Bangladesh.
