GRAMEENPHONE SHARES ‘#theirkhushi ’ WITH CUSTOMERS

DHAKA, July 1 (NsNewsWire) — Grameenphone Ltd. has launched a special ‘#theirkhushi ’ campaign to share the spirit of the holy Ramadan and happiness of Eid-ul-fitr with people across the country.

Under this campaign, Grameenphone will collect used Internet-enabled handsets from valued customers and other entities and donate them among underprivileged people of the country through BRAC, the largest developmental organization in the world. A MoU was signed Wednesday between the organizations in this regard at GPHouse.

Through this campaign customers are encouraged to donate their old or unused internet enabled handsets to all Grameenphone Centers across the country. Grameenphone will refurbish the devices and hand them over to development partner BRAC. Subsequently, the mobile phones will be gifted to young, aspiring entrepreneurs or community role models with one year free internet subscription. The campaign will be initiated with 500 handsets donated by Grameenphone.

Commenting on the ‘#theirkhushi’ campaign, Mr. Nehal Ahmed, Head of Marketing, at Grameenphone Ltd said, ”Through this initiative Grameenphone wanted to help those to go beyond who cannot afford to own an internet-enable handsets. Internet can bring immense positive change in people’s lives and surrounding communities. Through this small gesture we wish to be a step closer to our vision of ‘internet for all’ on this festive occasion.”

Mr. Ahmed Najmul Hossain, the representative from BRAC at the signing, stressed that his organization was “very excited to be a partner of this innovative campaign and trust that this initiative will make a significant impact to the lives of people who will benefit from these internet-enabled mobile phones.”

Grameenphone ‘#theirkhushi’ campaign will be activated around the country and will continue till Eid-ul-fitr. Customers will be able to donate their old phones at any Grameenphone Center along with a photocopy of their NID\passport\driving license. Apart from the GPC’s Grameephone’s representatives will visit different universities and corporate offices to collect handsets.

Grameenphone has an ambition to provide “Internet for All” in Bangladesh. High price of Internet-enabled devices has been a barrier for the spread of internet in Bangladesh and Grameenphone has been striving to make them affordable. The ‘Joy of Giving’ campaign is expected to take Internet to the underprivileged people and help them to Go Beyond with their dreams and aspirations.
