GRAMEENPHONE’S SAFE INTERNET GUIDEBOOK FOR PARENTS LAUNCHED

salfe internetDHAKA, Sept. 17 (NsNewsWire) — Bangladesh’s largest cell phone company Grameenphone has launched ‘Safe Internet’ Parents Guidebook publishedby Telenor Group to facilitate informed use of the Internet by children.

The  guidebook  was  launched  at  Agrani  School  &  College  in  Azimpur.  The  launch  was  part  of  thecontinuous endeavor undertaken by Grameenphone to spread awareness among parents and childrenregarding  safe  use  of  Internet.

Grameenphone  is  the  first  mobile  operator  in  Bangladesh  to  startpromoting the concept of Safe Internet.A panel discussion of Safe Internet was also arranged in the school premises.

Dr. Abdullah Abu Sayeed, Chairman of Bishwa Sahitya Kendra, Md. Reaz Uz Zaman Bhuiyan, Principal of Agrani School and College, Jamila Akhter, Child Protection Specialist of UNICEF, Ronnie Mirza, Communications Lead of BRAC and Debashis Roy, Head of Corporate Responsibility of Grameenphone were present at the event.

Md. Hasan, DGM, Public Relations moderated the panel discussion.Millions of people across Asia are starting to use internet in recent years.

But parents struggle to talk totheir kids about many sensitive topics like the contents that are available over the internet and need toremain safe on Internet. Telenor as a responsible operator comes out with this guidebook designed tohelp parents do that – talk to their children about the right contents on internet – by equipping themwith important information to pass on to their children and start an open dialogue about the role ofinternet in our lives.

Telenor and its business units  across Asia are promoting Safe Internet for  thechildren. The speakers in the discussion outlined various do’s and don’ts for parents and children regarding theInternet. These guidelines are meant to ensure that children can positively utilize the endless resourceson offer on the internet without being distracted by any negative aspect of it.

We are aware that the children of today are tomorrow’s leaders, and consider it our dutyto ensure their well-being through informed use of the resources around them,” said Debashis Roy.Spreading awareness in low-information populations where the Internet is still in its infancy can helpmitigate risks posed to digitally inexperienced parents and their children. The book is available both inEnglish and Bangla and will be distributed by Grameenphone among the target groups.

Grameenphone  has  an  ambition  to  provide  Internet  for  All.  The  company is  also  working  to  buildawareness among the users regarding safe use of Internet. It will hold workshops in 500 schools withthe  help  of  BRAC.

Earlier  this  year  Grameenphone  arranged a  workshop  and published  awarenessadvertisement regarding Safe Internet on national dailies on the occasion of Safer Internet Day.
