International Labour Organization (ILO) Assistant Director General and Regional Director for the Asia-Pacific visits Bangladesh

DHAKA, April 20 (NsNewsWire) — Tomoko Nishimoto, ILO Assistant Director General and Regional Director for the Asia-Pacific arrived in Dhaka Sunday 19 April, ahead of the second-year Rana Plaza commemoration.

She is due to meet with the Hon’ble State Minister Mr. Md. Mujibul Haque Chunnu, Minister for Labour and Employment as well as Hon’ble Minister Eng. Khandker Mosharraf Hossain of the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment. In addition, meetings will be held with representatives of employers’ and workers’ organizations as well as development partners.  

On Wednesday 21 April, Ms Nishimoto will participate in the opening session of a national tripartite consultation on social dialogue and industrial relations in Bangladesh. Later that day she will also take part in the inauguration of the Centre of Excellence for the Bangladesh RMG sector.

On Thursday 23 April, Ms Nishimoto will speak at a high-level commemoration event “Rana Plaza two years on: Towards a safer RMG sector for Bangladeshorganized by the Government of Bangladesh and ILO with support from Canada, the Netherlands and United Kingdom.

During her visit Ms Nishimoto will also visit an RMG factory to meet disabled employees who have received skills training, a footwear factory as well as the Centre of Excellence for Leather Skills in Bangladesh.
