Moderate earthquake jolts parts of Bangladesh, no damage reported

DHAKA, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) — A moderate earthquake that was recorded in India’s northeastern state of Assam shook parts Bangladesh capital Dhaka and parts of the country on Wednesday morning.
Electronic Engineer Md. Mominur Rahman, a meteorologist of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), told Xinhua that the epicenter of the earthquake of 5.3 magnitude was located in Assam and the distance of the epicenter was 293 km north from Dhaka.
Police and fire officials said there had no reports of big damage immediately after the earthquake that was felt here for moments at about 10:50 a.m. local time.
Bangladesh, which sits on the zone of earthquake, is prone to tremors and experts have predicted a major earthquake in the near future.
