Myanmar, India vows cooperation in border security following rebel raid

YANGON, June 22 (Xinhua) — Myanmar and India have agreed to cooperate on border security following an India army’s raid on the rebel Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN), near Myanmar-India border earlier this month, the military-run Myawaddy newspaper reported on Monday.

The Myanmar army said it will maintain a continuous patrol of the border to ensure no hide-out for the Indian insurgents, assuring that Myanmar will not tolerate any rebel groups on its soil which are trying to harm the interest of its neighboring countries.

According to the report, the NSCN rebel group launched an attack on Indian border guards on patrol in a village near Manipur of India on June 4, killing security officers.

The India army, while securing the area on June 9, got engaged in fighting with the insurgents near the border with Myanmar.

Meanwhile, Indian National Security Adviser Ajit Doval visited Nay Pyi Taw on Wednesday, vowing to cooperate with Myanmar in border security and stability.
