Myanmar president responds to parliament motion on holding six-party talks

YANGON, Jan. 20 (NsNewsWire) — Myanmar President U Thein Sein has responded to the parliament’s motion on holding six-party talks for amending the state constitution, said a press release from the government information team published Tuesday.

Expressing welcome of the request, U Thein Sein, however, advised that “it would be better if arrangements are made for representation of all national races, social organizations and political forces, framework acceptable to all and transparency” rather than holding the proposed six-party talks, reports Xinhua.

U Thein Sein urged the parliament to inform the government of how such dialogue should be held, the statement said.

According to the statement, U Thein Sein pointed out that ways and means to amend the constitution are stipulated under Sections 433,434, 435 436 of Chapter 12 of the state constitution when it needs to amend the constitution.
