New Delhi responds to Bangladesh opposition chief’s statement

DHAKA, Dec. 13 (nsnewswire) — In response to questions on Bangladesh, including the statement of the Opposition Leader of Bangladesh on December 12, 2013, the Official Spokesman of India’s Ministry of External Affairs said on December 13, 2013:

“We proceed with our relations with Bangladesh on the basis of the principles of mutual respect, mutual benefit, non-interference and respect for each other’s sovereignty.

Our relations with Bangladesh are broad based and inclusive. India has always and will always respect the wishes of the people of Bangladesh. It is for the people of Bangladesh to decide their future. We have deep respect for their wisdom and achievements.

We are confident that as a democracy the people of Bangladesh will resolve their differences through dialogue and peaceful means, in an atmosphere free of violence.

That brings me to the last question – the execution of the death sentence on Abdul Qauder Mollah, Assistant Secretary General of the Jamaat-e-Islami, is an outcome of the internal judicial processes and laws of Bangladesh. ” Source: Indian High Commission in Dhaka .
