New York holds annual hot dog-eating contest on Independence Day

NEW YORK, July 6 (NsNewsWire) — The annual Nathan’s Hot Dog-Eating Contest was held Saturday in New York’s Coney Island with Matt ” The Megatoad” Stonie ousting an eight-time champion.

Reigning men’s champion Joey “Jaws” Chestnut, who managed to wolf down 60 dogs in the contest this year, was out eaten by Stonie, who ate 62 in 10 minutes, reports Xinhua.

Defending champion Miki Sudo won the women’s division, by eating 38 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes.

She retained the coveted mustard yellow winner’s championship belt after downing four more wieners than last year and besting Sonya “Black Widow” Thomas, who devoured 31 hot dogs.

The traditional holiday event has drawn some 30,000 spectators this year.

The Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest is an annual American hot dog eating competition. It is held each year on Independence Day at Nathan’s Corporation’s original restaurant in Coney Island.
