China Minister of Commerce Gao Hucheng arrives in Bangladesh

DHAKA, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) — Chinese Commerce Minister Gao Hucheng has arrived in Dhaka in his maiden visit to Bangladesh to enhance cooperation in trade and investment.

Hucheng is expected to meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, President Abdul Hamid, Finance Minister AMA Muhith, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed and Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali.

During the meetings they are set to discuss Chinese investment and support in Bangladesh’s commerce, agriculture, and industrial and infrastructure development.

The delegation led by Gao is also slated for a discussion with Bangladesh’s Economic Relations Division officials regarding Chinese loan and assistance in some large projects in Bangladesh.

A deal to construct Bangladesh’s first-ever permanent exhibition centre at Purbachal on the outskirts of capital Dhaka with Chinese assistance is expected to be signed during his visit.

Signing of the free-trade agreement (FTA) and setting up of a Chinese Economic and Industrial Zone (CEIZ) at southeastern seaport city Chittagong’s Anwara will also come across the table for discussion, sources said.
