Penalties decisive on Saturday in la Liga

MADRID, Nov. 6 (NsNewsWire) — Atletico Madrid suffered their second defeat of the season on Saturday as they were beaten 2-0 by Real Sociedad in the Anoeta stadium.

Both of Atletico’s defeats this season have come in away games following Champions League matches and they looked flat as Real Sociedad took advantage with two second half goals, reports Xinhua.

Kevin Gameiro hit the post for Atletico in an even first half, but the home side were better after the break with Yuri drawing a 54th minute penalty from Atletico captain Gabi, which Carlos Vela converted with a cool finish.

Vela drew a second penalty with 15 minutes left to play and Willian Jose stepped up to score a goal which ensured Real Sociedad will go into the international break in the top-six.

Atletico need to regroup now before they entertain Real Madrid on November 19th.

Granada are still without a win this season after drawing 1-1 at home to Deportivo la Coruna.

Florin Andone’s first goal of the season gave Deportivo the lead and they should have been 2 ahead after Ryan Babel’s close range effort was wrongly ruled out for offside.

David Lomban snatched a point with an 80th minute winner, but Granada remain bottom of the table with just 4 points from their first 11 games of the campaign.

Cristian Santos scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot as Alaves won 1-0 away to Osasuna to take a big step away from danger, while leaving their rivals second from bottom of the table.

Las Palmas – Eibar was also decided from the spot as Jonathan Viera’s 94th minute spot kick earned Las Palmas a last-gasp 1-0 win at home to Eibar. That meant that incredibly, the last four goals scored on Saturday all came from the penalty spot.
