Robi and British Council to promote SMART & SAFE use of Internet

DHAKA, Feb. 27 (NsNewsWire) — Leading digital services provider, Robi and British Council have
agreed to work together in promoting smart and safe ways of using of internet among the
women and the children. In this regard, these two organizations have signed an MoU
yesterday, 26th February. These activities will be implemented as part of Robi’s Corporate
Responsibility project named Internet4U.
Robi’s Chief Corporate and People Officer, Matiul Islam Nowshad and British Council’s
Deputy Director in Bangladesh, Andrew Newton signed the agreement on behalf of their
respective organizations at Robi Corporate Office located in Gulshan.
Robi’s Vice President, Communication and Corporate Responsibility, Ekram Kabir, General
Manager, Corporate Responsibility, Md. Towfiquzzaman Chowdhury and Manager,
Corporate Responsibility, Nadeea Khandker were present at the signing ceremony. British
Council’s Head of Cultural Central, Sarwat Masuda Reza, Library and Cultural Center Young
Learner Programme Coordinator, Tahnee Yeasmin were also present on the occasion.
Throughout 2018, a series of awareness sessions will be organized in the British Council
located in Dhaka under the MoU agreement. The sessions that will be organized for the
women have been termed as “Surf smart, stay safe.”
These awareness building sessions will cover the effective use of internet (positive &
negative impact), harnessing the power of internet, combating cyber harassment against
women and girls, safe use of internet and social media, introduce defense mechanism against
cyber harassment/ bullying in local as well as global context.
Along with the above topics, the ‘Play Internet SMART’ sessions will present the Robi Safe
Internet to the children and their parents.
These sessions have been designed to address the Goal #5, Gender Equality and Goal# 17,
Partnership for achieving the Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs).
The awareness building sessions will bring multi-stakeholder professionals to share their
knowledge, expertise, technology to minimize the gap between the developed and developing
countries within the context of the public-private dichotomy.
