Wildcard fast bowler the shock selection for Australian Test tour of Bangladesh

MELBOURNE, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) — Debutants Andrew Fekete and Cameron Bancroft are surprise selections in the Australian cricket team’s 15-man Test squad which is due to tour Bangladesh next month.
Fekete, a 30-year-old Tasmanian fast bowler, has played just 30 first-class matches in his career, but impressed during the 2014/ 15 domestic season when he took the second-most wickets in the competition with 37.
Meanwhile Bancroft is a 22-year-old Western Australian opening batsman who averages 37.3 runs in first class cricket.
Fekete is the only Tasmanian included in the squad, and has not even met the national side’s captain, Steve Smith.
Smith said Fekete was included due to his strong subcontinental form during the reserve squad’s recent tour of India.
“I haven’t seen a great deal of him to be quite honest,” Smith told the Cricket Australia website on Monday.
“I heard he bowled extremely well in India for the (reserves) and there’s no doubt that the conditions are likely to be quite similar (in Bangladesh).”
“I think he reverses the ball quite well and hopefully that will be one of our strengths that we’ll be able to do well in Bangladesh and he certainly provides that option.”
Fekete joins fast bowlers Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Peter Siddle as fast bowlers on the tour, while Bancroft will likely open the batting due to the absence of regular starter David Warner.
Australia has chosen to rest bowlers Mitchell Johnson and Josh Hazlewood ahead of the Australian summer which starts in November.
The two-Test series begins in Chittagong, Bangladesh on Oct. 9, while the second match will take place in Dhaka from Oct. 17.  Enditem
