TELENOR GROUP AND NORWEGIAN EMBASSY ORGANIZE SEMINAR ONBUSINESS SUSTAINABILITY

telenorDHAKA, Sept. 17 (NsNewsWire) — Telenor Group, in association with the Norwegian Embassy, organized a seminar on “Business Sustainability – perspective on creating shared value,” at a local hotel Thursday.

 

The seminar included a key-note speech by Ms. Katja Nordgaard, Executive Vice President & Head of Corporate Affairs at Telenor Group, on sustainable business practices and the long term perspective of shared value creation for business and society across Asia. The key-note was followed by a panel discussion on recent developments in the areas of business and sustainability.

 

Since inception of Grameenphone 18 years ago, Telenor has been interested in working closely with the government in developing Bangladesh.

 

Speaking at the seminar the Telenor Head of Corporate Affairs indicated that “as the industry leader, Grameenphone was at an important position of influence in leading business sustainability in Bangladesh.” Adding that GP was contributing both by extending the benefits of mobile communication to everyone, as well as ensuring responsible business practices. “With Grameenphone a leading commercial player in Bangladesh, Telenor is aware of the responsibilities that lie upon us to lead by example and demonstrate business sustainability locally,” she said.

 

Merete Lundemo , Norwegian Ambassador to Bangladesh; Matlub Ahmed, President, FBCCI; Dr. Debapriya Bhatachariya, Distinguished Fellow, Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD); Nooruddin Chowdhury, Country Manager, DHL; and Hans Henrichsen, Chief Representative Officer, Telenor Country Office- Bangladesh, were present as panelists. Dr. Syed Ferhat Anwar, Professor at the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), University of Dhaka, moderated the panel discussion.

The telecommunication industry in Bangladesh currently accounts for almost 4% of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and the industry is responsible for over 1 million indirect employment opportunities.
