Weeklong income tax fair begins in Bangladesh

DHAKA, Nov. 2 (NsNewsWire) — A weeklong tax fair began on Tuesday in Dhaka and elsewhere in Bangladesh to facilitate taxpayers to pay their taxes and make the government earn more revenues, reports Xinhua.
Bangladeshi Finance Minister AMA Muhith inaugurated the tax fair in Dhaka organized by the country’s National Board of Revenue (NBR).
The annual tax fair is aimed at widening the tax base of the country and to increase the annual revenues of the government.
Last year, officials said, the fair brought to the state coffers a record 20.35 billion taka (about 250 million U.S. dollars), which was about 22 percent higher than the amount collected from the fair in the previous year.
The fair, which has been witnessing a mad rush of taxpayers from its beginning on Tuesday morning, attracted a record 757,754 new taxpayers last year.
NBR chairman Nojibor Rahman had earlier told journalists that this year the income tax fair will be held in a total of 150 places across Bangladesh.  Endtiem
