Veteran Bangladesh journalist leader Altaf Mahmood passes away

altaf-mahmud-wbDHAKA, Jan. 24 (NsNewsWire) — President of a faction of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists Altaf Mahmud died at Bangabandhu Sehikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Sunday morning  at the age of about 65.

Veteran Journalist Altaf Mahmud, executive editor of the Bangla daily Destiny, reportedly breathed his last at 8:40 am on Sunday at the intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital.

Altaf Mahmud, a permanent member of the National Press Club, had been suffering from neurological problems and undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Mahmud, who started his career in journalism in the 1970s and worked as the chief reporter of a weekly, ‘Saptahik Khabar’, for a long time, left behind wife, one son, two daughters and host of relatives, well-wishers and admirers to mourn his death.

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have expressed profound shock at the death of Altaf Mahmud.

Muhammad Shafiqur Rahman, president, and Kamrul Islam Chowdhury,  general secretary, of the National Press Club, expressed deep shock at the demise of Altaf Mahmud and also conveyed their sympathy to the bereaved family members.
