ERICSSON TO SUPPORT ROBI’S NETWORK UPGRADATION

DHAKA, Jan. 22 (NsNewsWire) — Ericsson has recently signed a contract with Robi Axiata Limited (‘Robi’) to upgrade Robi’s network in Chittagong and Comilla regions.

The agreement also makes way for the deployment substantial number of 3G/WCDMA sites in the same regions.

This enhanced network strength is expected to help boost quality data service for the leading mobile phone operator in Bangladesh.

Ericsson will roll out network hardware and software and provide integration services for capacity expansion, which will help Robi to cater for more customers, enhance data experience and improve mobile apps coverage; enabling consumers to enjoy improved data experience.

Commenting on the signing of the agreement Robi’s Chief Technology Officer AKM Morshed said: “Ensuring consistent quality service is Robi’s commitment to its valued subscribers. According to the latest edition of the South East Asia and Oceania regional Ericsson Mobility Report, Bangladesh is one of the top 10 countries globally in terms of the mobile subscription growth; ranking 5th with a net addition of 4 million mobile subscriptions.

The report shows there will be up to 20% smartphone penetration by the end of 2015 and this will double by 2018. In addition, data consumption has already taken off since the introduction of 3G/WCDMA in 2013.
