Mehedi, Shamim new TRNB president, secretary

1060460_976851772353562_1436877295_nDHAKA, Dec. 20 (NsNewsWire) — Rased Mehedi, special correspondent of The Daily Samakal, and Shamim Ahamed, senior  correspondent of bdnews24.com, were elected president and general secretary respectively of Telecom Reporters’ Network of Bangladesh or TRNB on Saturday for the 2016 term.

The other office-bearers include Treasurer Samir Kumar Dey of the daily Ittefaq, Organizing Secretary Ishtiaq Hossain of Dhaka Tribune and three Members — Muzib Masud of Daily Jugantor, Mazharul Anwar Khan Shipu of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, and Kazi Shohag of Daily Manabzamin.
The new committee members were elected during the TRNB’s Annual General Meeting or AGM, which was held on Saturday night at a city hotel.
Chairman to the election committee, Mir Mohammad Morshed, Bangladesh Telecommunication Company limited (BTCL) director (public relations), announced the polls results. Founder Members — Mustak Hossain, head of Government Relations of MetLife Bangladesh, and Zahedul Islam, senior manager ( PR & Media Relations) of bKash Limited — performed as election commissioners with Tareque Mortaza of The Independent as secretary to the committee.

Mehedi has been serving as an acting TRNB president since Abdullah Mamun of The Daily Star left the organization couple of months earlier to join Grameen Intel as a deputy general manager.
Ahamed, however, became new general secretary replacing Sajal Zahid Islam of The Daily Star.
Prior to the elections, in his address, the outgoing general secretary Islam reported on the TRNB’s administration and governance, training courses, membership status and  relevant activities with a highlight on flagship events, stakeholder relations and way forward.

The AGM decided to observe founding anniversary TRNB which falls on Febr. 12 as “TRNB Day” every year.
At the outset of the  meeting after acting president’s welcome speech, the draft of new constitution was presented before the full house of  AGM by TRNB veteran Kazi Hafiz, convener, and Samir Kumar Dey of The Daily Ittefaq, member secretary, for the committee to amend constitution.
After threadbare discussion on various aspects, the TRNB constitution was amended squeezing doors for PROs (public relations officers) to become honorable member of the professional body.
The amended TRNB constitution, however, recognized 16 journalists who founded the professional body in February 2008.
Abdullah Mamun, Anika Farzana, Fahmida Akhter, Kazi Hafiz, Mustak Hossain, Mohammad Hasan, Muzib Masud, Mohammad Zahid Islam Sajal, Naim-Ul-Karim, Rased Mehedi, Shawkat Milton (member secretary), Shahed Siddique (convener), SM Robin, Tareque Moretaza and Zahedul Isalm have been recognized as founders of TRNB constitutionally.
In line with the amended constitutional provision, the founding members will remain honorable member of the TRNB forever .
