Promoting Academic Innovation in Higher Education

DHAKA, Feb. 22 (NsNewsWire) — The public and private universities in Bangladesh have implemented 156 Academic Innovation Fund subprojects which helped them to create enabling condition for better teaching, learning and research. These subprojects helped to establish and upgrade science labs, computer labs, library automation systems and campus network to spur academic innovation in Bangladesh. These improvements were made possible with the support of the Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP), especially in promoting academic innovation in the universities through the Academic Innovation Fund (AIF) – a competitive funding mechanism.

HEQEP supports improvements in the quality and relevance of the teaching and research environment in universities by encouraging both innovation and accountability within institutions, and by enhancing the technical and institutional capacity of the higher education sector. The Government of Bangladesh, with the support from the World Bank, has been implementing the HEQEP through the University Grants Commission since 2009.
