Update: No connection between postponement, political situation: China

DHAKA, Dec. 28 (NsNewsWire) — China said on Saturday that there was no connection between the postponement of Vice Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin’s visit to Dhaka scheduled for Dec. 28 and the volatile political situation in Bangladesh.

“… the postpone of Mr. Liu’s visit was caused by short notice of the flight cancellation due to heavy fog, and it has nothing to do with the worsening political situation,” A spokesman of Chinese embassy in Dhaka said Saturday in a mail to NsNewsWire to further clarify about the postponement.

The embassy spokesman Ye Wei said Beijing attaches great importance to Sino-Bangladesh relationship and is always ready to work with Bangladesh friends.

Wei, political attache of the embassy of the P.R. of China in Bangladesh, had earlier in a latter to media said that
Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin’s visit to Dhaka has been postponed as bad weather disrupts flight services from southwestern Chinese city of Kunming.

“I am sorry to inform u that H.E. Liu Zhenmin’s visit to Bangldesh has to be postponed due to flight cancellationn,”
he said on Friday in the letter to media.

“H.E. Liu Zhenmin is supposed to arrive at Dhaka by MU2035, which will stop by Kunming. However, the Kunming Airport was closed due to heavy fog and could not provide service till tomorrow afternoon. Therefore, all the flights of Kunming airport are cancelled.”

Wei said: “Due to short notice of the cancellation, we could not arrange another flight for Mr. Liu and we have no choice but to postpone the visit. If there is any further information about Mr. Liu’s visit to Bangladesh ,I will keep u informed.”

The Chinese vice-foreign minister Liu Zhenmin was all set to arrive on a two-day visit to Bangladesh on Saturday.
